Powering up the board for the first time
If available use a Lab Powersupply with current-limit for the first run. Set the current limit to 200mA, Output Voltage according to the batteries you are using.
Next start the device with the Powerbutton. If you think the board is drawing to much power just shut down your PSU. Since the board uses a buck-converter, the product of input voltage*current will stay stable. You can test this by increasing the input voltage, then the current will drop if the device is operating correct.
Voltages check
First ensure the operation of the various voltage regulators:
- 3V3 at Pin3 of IC3
- 5V5 at Pin1 of IC3
- 5V at Pin3 of IC4
Next check the input voltage for each chip with LC-Filter:
- 3V3 at Pin11 of IC1 (LIS3L) - or measure at C16/C15
- 3V3 at Pin13 of IC2 (MPU6000) - or measure at C31/43
- 3V3 at Pin1 of IC21 (MS5611) - or measure at C52/C53
- 3V3 at Pin2 of IC10 (Venus) - or measure at C33/C17
- 3V3 at Pin2 of IC11 (HMC5883L) - or measure at C42/C44
- 3V3 at Pin7 of IC6 (LPC2148) - or measure at C18
Programming the firmware
The LPC2148 is factory equiped with a serial bootloader in the ROM. By default the bootloader is active when there is no valid program in the flash (eg. checksum matches up). Its also possible to force the chip into bootloader mode by pulling SDA1 down at startup - thats what the bootloader-switch SW2 is for.
You wont see any LED activity while in bootloader mode (the Blue LED5 which is connected to the GPS will light up as soon as power is applied to the chip). The Flash process is described on a seperate page: Flashing
Hints
JTAG Adapter
The JTAG Adapter converts the Molex PicoBlade connector on the mainboard to a standard 20-Pin ARM JTAG connector and includes a reset button.
External compass
The compass HMC5883 is not 5V tolerant! Only use 3.3V.
Put external compass to X12 at HW-0.24-mini and remove solder bridges SJ5 SJ6 at FC, if you soldered compass there already.

Venus GPS
Make sure to populate R68 with 0R. It connects the VBAT supply pin of the Venus-GPS which is neccessary for proper operation. If VBAT is not present the Chip will not work as expected. (While you are at it, also populate R69 with 0R to connect the battery to the LPC2148’s real-time clock.)
