Soldering the ACC

Placing and soldering of the Accelerometer

It is possible to solder the LIS3L Accelerometer just with a cheap unregulated hot air gun, regular solder and smd flux. I prepared the pads of the board with a bit of solder.

Then I glued the Acc on the board with lots of flux (again using the not-so-fluid edsyn fl22), placed it on a heat-resistant surface (bottom of an old cup) and heated it with the hot-air-gun.

The pictures below show the process. Note the position of the acc, and the part of solder on the right side of the board.

Acc is slowly sinking into the solder.

pads have contact

The pads on the edges have contact. The red on the pads left and right from the Acc are reflections of the heating wires of my hot air gun.

Only after the acc has settled, the piece of solder starts melting.
